Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has backed under-pressure coach Zinedine Zidane amid more talk of a possible return to the club for Jose Mourinho.
Zidane is in the spotlight again after Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Mallorca in LaLiga on Saturday and Real are in a precarious position in the Champions League ahead of their group game away to Galatasaray on Tuesday, having picked up just one point from their first two matches in the competition so far.
“Everyone knows the dressing room is with Zidane to the death, whatever happens…” Ramos said in the pre-match press conference on Monday.
“We have to give an image of a united team that continues to believe in its coach. Madrid always come back and the way to do it is in a united way.”
Ramos was then asked about Mourinho and whether the Portuguese being out of work and linked to the Madrid job is affecting Zidane.
“We have to focus on ourselves,” he said. “We can’t control people’s opinions. Zizou is cured of fright. He knows this club and the demands of this club.
“He knows we live by results. We have to work aside from praise and criticism. If not, we would be conditioned in our games.
“We have to try and be happy and get the results which will make us comfortable.”
And the 33-year-old said the dressing room are not contemplating a change of coach.
