Manchester United have been told that will need to shell out £35m to prise Ivan Rakitic away from Barcelona .
The Croatia international has fallen out of favour at the Nou Camp and is being heavily linked with a move in January.
United are desperate to strengthen their midfield amid reports that Nemanja Matic is wanted by Inter Milan.
Scott McTominay’s form has been one of the bright parts of United’s season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Rakitic alongside him.
The former Sevilla star has a wealth of experience having win 106 caps for his nation and played in the World Cup final.
And according to Sport , United have already registered have opened initial negotiations with Barcelona over the 31-year-old.
The report claims that Barca are demanding at least £34m for Raktic.
But further rumours from Italy claim that AC Milan are preparing to challenge the Red Devils for the Barca star.
According to Calciomercato , Rossoneri Chief Footballing Officer Zvonimir Boban wants to hijack a potential January deal.
Earlier this week, Rakitic admitted he is unsure over his future at Barcelona and suggestion he would seek a move away if his situation does not improve.
“I spoke with people at the club, everyone knew I had other options,” he said.
“I have two years left on my deal and there’s no better place to play than Barcelona, the best club in the world, but I need to play and not just enjoy walks around the city and by the sea.
“I want to fight so that the team see me ready to deliver on the pitch. I want to thank the fans for the affection they showed me this weekend, but if nothing changes, we will have to sit down and talk about my situation again.”
