The Emir of
Talata Mafara in Zamfara state, Alhaji Dr. Bello Muhammad Barmo, has assured development
partners particularly the United Nations Children’s Funds (UNICEF) of his
support for the successful implementation of its programmes in the emirate.
The Monarch
stated this during a one day sensitization and engagement meeting for
stakeholders organized by RUWASSA held at the emir’s palace in Talata Mafara
Saturday.
According to him, the emirate has recognized the impact of
UNICEF programmes especially the environmental sanitation programmes,
educational support, healthcare which includes antenatal care, addressing child
and women morbidity and mortality syndrome among others in the state, hence the
need by the emirate to provide enabling working environment for organisation.
“My emirate
already has an existing emirate sanitation committee led by a traditional title
holder who is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring clean environment.
The emir
further expressed his dissatisfaction over the situation of some public places
like market, abattoir and general hospital as presented by various stakeholders
during the meeting.
Earlier in
her remarks, the UNICEF consultant in Talata Mafara and Bakura, Elder Mrs Anam
Juliana Kenneth said the essence of the meeting is to educate the people on the
dangers of open defeacation among others.
“The
stakeholders meeting was aimed at engaging traditional institutions, religious
leaders, organizations, department and parastatals of government so as to
ensure Talata Mafara defeacation free area,” she said.
Mrs Kenneth
solicited more support and cooperation from all the stakeholders especially the
media.
