Veteran
radio presenter and Head of Broadcast Wazobia FM, Nigeria Info FM and Cool FM,
Mr Expensive James, on Sunday, led staff of Wazobia FM and well meaning
Nigerians to visit the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Karamajiji,
Abuja.
Relief
materials donated to the IDPs included cartons of Indomie noodles, tubers of
yam, bags of rice, detergents, fruit juice, confectioneries, among others.
Addressing
newsmen during the event, Mr Expensive said that he wanted to celebrate the
59th independence of Nigeria with the IDPs; in order for them to have a sense
of belonging.
He, however,
implored the IDPs to always believe in themselves and not use their poor
background as an excuse not to develop themselves, even as he advised them to
learn skills and be ready; as job opportunities may come at any time.
He said:
“I have been visiting the less privileged in different parts of Abuja, as
it is part of me to render assistance to people whenever I can, especially with
my NGO, Help One Foundation. Today, I decided to come with the Wazobia family
to celebrate with the IDPs and give them a sense of belonging, especially as
Nigeria recently celebrated her 59th independence anniversary.
“As you
heard from many of the IDPs, their conditions are pathetic. So, I want to call
on well meaning Nigerians to always remember the less privileged. Nothing is
too small or too big for the IDPs. We should not always wait for government to
do everything. We should help whenever we can. All of us here are part of
government.”
While
showing appreciation for the relief materials, one of the IDPs, Mrs Sadia
Ajiya, said she has been living in the camp since 2015 and appealed to good
spirited individuals to intervene in the plight of the IDPs.
“I am a
Diploma holder of Business Administration, but I have been finding it difficult
surviving here in Abuja after Boko Haram insurgents attacked my village in
Gwoza, Borno state. However, our situation here will be tolerable if well
meaning Nigerians can remember us,” she said.
