The Federal Government has assured that it would commence the railway segment from Port Harcourt to Warri and from Benin to Onitsha soon. Minister of Transportation, Hon Rotimi Amaechi, during an inspection on the Lagos/ Ibadan railway project said they have applied for a loan from China and not China EXIM bank. The minister who expressed dismay over the slow of work at site said, “CCECC has not done too well. I used the phrase too well because at a time, they did us proud by trying to push this job.
“They claim that at the end of the last government, we were owing them some money and we had not given approval for the extra and additional job.
Also, the Minister of State Transportation, Hon. Gbemisola Saraki, also expressed disappointment that the Cabotage Act passed many years ago has not been fully implemented.
She assured that the government would create direct and indirect jobs and enabling environment for business is done .In her words, “The most important thing is to ensure that at the end of it, what the president wants which is the issue of creating jobs for the teeming number of Nigerians will be done. “We also have to go back again to look at the issue of the shipping industry and cabotage, and the main issues right now is that of port decongestion, and I was humbled to be one of the people who passed the cabotage Act and many years later,” she said .
