Executive Director of Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for including the names of some politicians who were alleged to be corrupt in his 43-man ministerial nominee list sent to the Senate.
Speaking at Campus Journalism Dialogue, held in Bayero University Kano on Saturday, Rafsanjani, accused the president of nominating the people who were said to have looted Nigeria’s treasury.Advert
Though he did not mention the name of Buhari and those politicians he was referring to as corrupt, Rafsanjani wondered why Buhari, who was considered to be a man of integrity would appoint such people to be members of his cabinet.
He said, “these are the people who looted Nigeria’s treasury. They kill our education because they can sponsor their children to study abroad. They destroyed our health sector, but the man of integrity has nominated them to form his cabinet.
” That means we are moving backward in the fight against corruption. Indeed the man of integrity has institutionalized corruption in this country, ” he said
Rafsanjani, who was the Acting General-Secretary of West Africa Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) therefore called on the media, Civil Society Organizations, CSOs and student to rise against corruption and impunity in the country.
“I call on you to rise against any sentiment, fight and condemn any act capable of institutionalizing corruption in Nigeria, ” he said
On his part, the Editor-in-chief of Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar highlighted the importance of media in the fight against corruption.
According to him, journalists in Nigeria need to be up and doing to professionally fight corruption without fear or favor as it is practiced in the developed countries, calling on the youth to imbibe the culture of reading and listening to the news and be conversant with the happenings in the country.
